Roll Your Own Wine Feed With Yahoo Pipes
There’s a lot of great wine websites out there, most of them with their own RSS feeds (more info on RSS here). Maybe you’ve thought about subscribing to those feeds but didn’t have the time to add each of them to your newsreader. Well thanks to some neato web tools I’ve done much of the work for you by combining the content from a handful of wine sites into one RSS Feed.
I created this feed using Yahoo Pipes, a new tool that lets people mash up all kinds of web content with an intuitive visual interface. You don’t even need a newsreader to enjoy it — the feed can be accessed at The Wine Feed Pipes Page. You may need to click on “Run This Pipe” at the top of the page to refresh the feed. You’ll also see a “subscribe” button that will drop down to reveal the RSS link as well as buttons to automatically add the feed to a bunch of different online RSS readers.
There are already sites out there like Scrugy that collect wine posts from around the web, but Pipes includes all kinds of filters and operations to create unique applications. I got a little help on how to set it up from a post over at Lifehacker. Pipes is a sophisticated tool and I’ve only scratched the surface of what it can do.
If you’re interested in seeing what feeds are included you can go to my Personal Pipes Page and select “Wine Feed” to see a list of the sites that I included. If you want to customize the pipe yourself you can clone it and change whatever you want. Any feeds you wish were included that I missed? Leave a comment and let me know.
